Sources of Stress
Stressor can be natural disaster , such as earthquake or tsunami. But for the most of us, stessors are personal events that affect the comfortable pattern of our lives such as run away car keys.
Stressful Events
These are the source of stress that occur continuously or repeatedly. These chronic stressors often have greater and longer-lasting impact than major life events.
These stressor comes from inside rather than outside.
Stressful Events
- Death of a loved one
- Divorce
- Loss job
- Sudden financial burden (e.g. loss on stock investment)
- Getting married
- Moving to new home

- Being unhappy in your job
- Discrimination
- Chronic illness or injury
- Perceived Control Over Stressful Events
These stressor comes from inside rather than outside.
- Fear and uncertainty. When you regularly hear about the threat of terrorist attacks or global warming, it can cause you to be stressed, especially you feel like you don't have control over these situations.
- Attitude and perceptions. The way you perceive the particular situation can cause stress. For example, if a student views Introduction to Psychology as an interesting subject, studying will be less stressful than viewing it as boring one.
- Unrealistic expectation: "Aiming high" maybe a good motivational materiel but it can create unhealthy stress especially if the goal is unrealistic one.
